Serra Nevada Tumbler, Autumn Brown Ale

Derek has had less-than-stellar experiences with Sierra Nevada products as of late, so I thought I’d try my hand at their fall seasonal. Enter the Tumbler, SN’s autumn brown ale.

As the nights grow cool, the leaves on the valley oaks begin to turn and fall. In honor of the yearly dance, we bring you Tumbler Autumn Brown Ale and invite you to enjoy the show. We use malt within days of roasting at the peak of its flavor to give Tumbler a gracefully smooth malt character. So pour a glass, and grab a window seat to watch as the leaves come tumbling down.

Tumbling leaves…Tumbler…I get it. Crafty guys. (OK, I’ll stop with there.) This brown ale starts smooth and ends crisp, even slightly bitter. The full nut-brown color makes this a rather dark ale, while the mild aroma is inviting. Some brown ales overpower with nose and flavor, but this is enjoyable. Tumbler is versatile with any food; mustard-grilled chicken with brussels and rice works perfectly, or, pick any sandwich. Sierra Nevada hit it big with this seasonal.

  1. Sierra Nevada continues to be my favorite American brewer, if there is anyone who knows how to brew with hops, it’s them. I am not a huge fan of Brown Ales or overly malty brews, but this one was pretty solid.
