Beer Review – Goose Island Mild Winter Ale

DC doesn’t do winters. It’s either 67 degrees and humid…..or we get 5 FEET of snow over two blizzards. It’s not fun. What DC does do is provide it’s residents with great winter beers.

Goose Island is a Chicago brewery that is easily climbing the ranks of my favorite brewers. This winter brew is an American ale bolstered by a spot of rye. With mild accents of raisin and caramel, a finish akin to fresh brown bread, it’s rich without being overbearing or filling. The toffee-brown finish is almost warming, and that’s good. You expect something sharp but experience smoothness and slight creaminess.

With official winter 5 weeks away, there’s time for the end of year seasonals to grace us with their presence. Goose Island Mild Winter has set the bar high.

BONUS – Ya gotta love a brewery that incorporates hockey skates into their packaging design.
