Beer Review – Heavy Seas Winter Storm Category 5 Ale

It was cold today. REALLY cold for here. Baltimore had sent us a Winter Storm.

Heavy Seas Winter Storm Category 5 Ale is an American interpretation of an Imperial ESB. A bitter ale, the extra English malts add color and flavor but can only barely mute the overload of American and English hops. Like other bitters, there’s not much to the aroma, which is fine since the experience of a bitter is all on the palette.

The colder fall becomes into winter, the more of a warm boost is needed after a long day. The Winter Storm’s 7.5%ABV should do the trick. And, like any ESB, this would be great with ribs. Let me tell you that broiled salmon and roasted brussels make a fine pairing as well. Very balanced approach.

Heavy Seas Winter Storm Category 5 Ale is available October through December. If you see this, get it. Very worthwhile acquisition.
